About The Project

Science education is profoundly important to us. As two high school students here at Hollidaysburg we see first hand how it affects others and has affected ourselves.  Brian Greene said it best when he stated, “Science is a way of life. Science is a perspective. Science is the process that takes us from confusion to understanding in a manner that’s precise, predictive and reliable – a transformation, for those lucky enough to experience it, that is empowering and emotional.“  Hollidaysburg has a proud history of educating students in the sciences to a degree that is above the standard. There are very few planetariums in the state and Hollidaysburg has been graced with having one even if it is currently non-functioning. We wish to revitalize the planetarium and inspire future scientists, just like we were inspired in elementary school.

Bringing new students into the expanding field of astronomy is the final goal of this project.  A new projector would help the high school astronomy students, but the new system will also reach out to other schools, college students, and community members.  The tremendous potential offered by the planetarium can not be overstated and we are thrilled at the opportunity to educate people about the “final frontier”.
